Russian law enforcement is investigating the alleged theft of mining hardware worth approximately $1.9 million. Powerful computing equipment went missing from a crypto mining hotel in Irkutsk, the owners of which have been accused of massive fraud. Police in Russian Irkutsk Oblast have launched an investigation into the operators of a mining hosting facility on suspicion of defrauding customers and stealing their expensive coin minting hardware, Tass news agency quoted the Main Directorate of the Regions of the Ministry of Interior as saying. Law enforcement officials said the miners handed over their equipment to people who were running the mining hotel, hoping to make a quick profit. At some point, the latter withheld all payments to its customers and failed to return the expensive machines. A criminal case was initiated on the basis of these facts under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code (large-scale fraud) of the Russian Federation.
