The newly launched short bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded fund (ETF) with BITI from ProShares saw a slow start to the market on the first day of trading, before a significant increase in interest on the second day. The ETF, which launched on Tuesday this week on the NYSE Arca exchange, saw trading volume of USD 183,284 shares worth around USD 7m in its first trading day on Tuesday. However, volume picked up significantly on the second day of trading, when 870,000 shares changed hands for a value of approximately US$35 million, per ProShares data. There was a sharp jump in trading volume for the short ETF on Wednesday as the price of BTC fell from close to $21,000 to over $20,000.The USD 7m trading volume for BITI on its first day makes up only a tiny fraction of the USD 1bn that was seen on the first day of trading for BITO, the first regular bitcoin futures-backed ETF to launch in the US.
